Our goal is to make it easy for busy people to discover and try new, exciting healthy meals that enrich the mind, body and spirit. Therefore our restaurants offer fast service and a variety of wholesome options created by our founder and food artist, Sólveig Eírksdóttir - better known as Solla.
Currently you'll find Gló at four locations across Reykjavík in Iceland but soon we'll open our new restaurant in Magasin du Nord, Copenhagen.
At each of our restaurants you can choose from a variety of healthy meals, whether you prefer our food raw, vegan or with meat. Gló is a walk-in restaurant so there is no need to book a table at any of the locations. You order your food at the counter and bring it to your table to enjoy.
Sólveig Eiríksdóttir has been on the path of healthy living ever since she was a child. Raised by loving parents that grew their own organic vegetables and fermented them at home, she was influenced by their ideals from a young age. As a child she suffered from various types of allergies, but gained perfect health by educating herself and developing her healthy lifestyle even further. Solla, as she is lovingly called by her friends and family, has had an amazing impact on the eating habits of the Icelandic population. Even better - she has taught them that healthy eating can be incredibly delicious.
In the year of 1994 Solla opened the first vegetarian restaurant in Iceland, which remained the most popular healthy restaurant for the 10 years she owned it. In 1996 she went to Puerto Rico to study at Dr. Ann Wigmore's Center, where her interest in raw cooking started. A few years later, in 2005, she went to Fort Bragg in Northern California to study with the Living Light Culinary Institute -the world's premier organic raw vegan chef school. After her graduation she and her husband, Elías Guðmundsson, launched the Gló adventure in Iceland.
Ever since, she continues to successfully develop her raw cooking skills and has won the title 'Best Raw Chef in the World' twice. In addition to her many Icelandic books her first book in English, RAW, was published by PHAIDON in 2016 It has since been translated to French, German and Italian, with more translations coming.
Solla is the founder and owner of Himneskt, the first affordable organic product line in Icelandic supermarkets, which has contributed to her goal of transforming the eating habits and consumption of Icelanders. Himneskt products are sold in stores all around the country and can be easily recognized by their vibrant orange colour and Solla's face on front.
Solla speaks at the Longevity Now Conference each year with great success. She has cooked for many of Hollywood famous stars, for example Ben Stiller, Gwyneth Paltrow and the Bechams'.
